Develop your Significance Talent

Significance is one of 34 StrengthsFinder talent themes.  Just over 6% of people who take the assessment have Significance in their Top 5 talent themes. If it’s in your Top 5, here are seven ways to develop your Significance talent:

1. Guard your Reputation

Because you understand the importance of an impeccable reputation, guard yours careful. Consider the projects you’re involved in and of the organizations you’re associated with and make sure that they align with how you want to be seen in the eyes of others. Your influence will likely be tied to your name.

2. Pursue Designations

Certifications, academic degrees and special designations may be important to you. Seek out credentials that will make you rise to the top like cream! Look around your industry and interests and determine which ones to pursue over the next few years and make a plan for achieving them.

3. Goals for Recognition

You are highly goal oriented. And you’re motivated by the vision you have at The End and how it will grow your influence. Be sure to tie the recognition and celebration to the goal. Writing down a goal could look like this: Sales Goal: $1.3 million. Recognition Goal: walk the stage at regional sales meeting. Celebration Goal: party on the deck of the SS Celebration – free trip! Focus on the feelings of recognition as you walk across that stage! Post copies of that trip all over your life so you can see it every day!

4. Hang with the Best

Position yourself in your community by attending events with “headliners” in your industry. Get trained by the best. Rub elbows with those who are successful. Go to book signings and get autographs. And take lots and lots of pictures with your role models and those who inspire you!

5. Define your Legacy

You are legacy minded and want to make an impact. Define where. What kinds of organizations interest you, where you can ultimately take on leadership roles? What charities and missions call your name? For which cause would you like to bring heightened awareness to your community? Where are you willing to spend your time and energy raising money to impact others? How do you want to be remembered 100 years from now?

6. Get Visible

Write articles about your favorite causes. Get interviewed. Tell stories in the public eye. You are well prepared for stepping into the limelight and sharing the news of what you’re up to and the results you’re getting. You’re an excellent advocate for whatever you’re involved in.

7. Give High Praise

Because you like to be recognized, foster recognition in others. Take others with you on your journey to the top and share the accolades for their hard work on the project, too. Be generous in your praise of others. You know how it feels to be honored for your achievements, so give appreciation freely. Build a culture of respect and celebration for success!
