Develop your Input Talent

In StrengthsFinder Themes, Talent Development by Rhonda Knight Boyle

Input is one of the 34 Clifton StrengthsFinder talent themes. Almost 20% of people who have taken the assessment have Input in their Top 5 report. Here are 7 ways to develop your Input talent and turn it into a strength!

1. Research

Being high in the talent theme of Input, you are a natural researcher. You’re great at gathering and collecting information on subjects where you have an interest. Spend time reading and researching your favorite topics.

2. Sort and Store

For you, it’s not just about collecting resources, it’s about storing them to be used later. As you begin studying something new or add to your current data bank, be sure to sort the information so you can find it easily later.

3. Storage Systems

You’re capable of collecting massive amounts of information and data. Storing it effectively is important. Devise simple systems for storing things so you can disseminate it quickly when you need to. File folders will work for somethings, but for others you’ll need something more sophisticated. Cloud storage systems like DropBox, iCloud or Evernote might be a fit. Stay current on trends and enhance your current systems as necessary.

4. Collections

It’s not just information that you collect, but also unique things that attract your interest. Maybe you have a stamp or coin collection or you collect comic books or baseball cards. Your collections are as individual as you are. You love the hunt and thrill when you score something!

5. Knowledgeable Expert

Your Input talent demands that you be an expert in certain areas. Focus on a few areas of interest and study everything you can get your hands on about them. When opportunities arise, step into the role of the expert. In all likelihood, you know more than 95% of most people about the subject and are more than qualified to speak on it.

6. Sharing is Caring

Gathering your research, sorting it properly and storing it for later is not The End when it comes to your Input talent. The whole purpose in your mind is to share the information with others. You want to be a resource! So consider your collections and your files and who might need to know what you know. Where can you share the information? Is there a group or organization that needs to the data you’ve compiled? Put your resources at the service of others.

7. Schedule Input Time

You have a craving to know more! Sometimes, you have breakdowns between your inputting, your sorting and your storage because you don’t create enough time to get the whole job done (read: clutter). Block your calendar for times to gather your little piles and finish the sorting and storing part of the process.
