Develop Your Individualization Talent

In StrengthsFinder Themes, Talent Development by Rhonda Knight Boyle

Individualization is one of the 34 Clifton StrengthsFinder talent themes. About 15% of people who have taken the assessment have Individualization in their Top 5 report. Here are 7 ways to develop your Individualization talent and turn it into a strength!

1. Learn Strengths Language

With Individualization high, you intuitively understand where people are going to shine and excel. Adding the StrengthsFinder language to your toolbox will help you create a common language to be used so others can see and define their uniqueness.

Using the language of StrengthsFinder can help you develop your Individualization talent.

2. The Right Seat on the Bus

Because you understand how people fit on a team, you can make sure they get in the right seat on the bus. Don’t hesitate to recommend shifts in job responsibilities when you see better choices. You can improve productivity by making sure people are in the right role.

3. Team Recruiter

Because you know how different people might be able to work together, recruit to the needs of the team. You’re very effective at finding great talent to create effective partnerships, teams and groups that complement one another. Find ways to recruit outside of the team to bring in fresh, new talent.

4. Advocate for Others

You hate stereotypes, labels and the boxes that others want to put people in. They’re not as attuned to differences and uniqueness as you are. Speak up when you see people labeled and explain the motivations and actions you see in those who are not able to express themselves.

5. Encourage and Coach

You’re a natural coach because you encourage others to grow in areas they’re already good at. You’re especially good in one-on-one relationships because most people appreciate having your attention and having their best talents highlighted. You can effectively point people in the direction of fulfilling their greatest potential.

6. Training and Certification

While formal training is not necessary for informal mentorship, you may consider seeking coaching certifications and becoming a professional coach. Becoming an internal coach within your company might be an option. Stay alert to job postings and positions that will utilize your gifts and talents in understanding how to position people where they can do their best.

7. Customize

You know that people learn differently, too. Customizing training and other programs can help everyone rise to their highest possible performance. Find ways to make new information relevant to each person’s needs. They are counting on you to tailor it to meet them where they are so they can grow and develop more quickly.
