Woo: The People People!

In StrengthsFinder Themes by Rhonda Knight Boyle

“I avoid that guy at all costs. His energy is nearly overwhelming! You can tell the minute he walks in the room and all I can think about is getting out of the way.”

“Have you seen how many networking events she attends each week? Just watching all the places she goes makes me want to take a nap! I don’t understand how she gets anything else done because she’s out socializing all the time.”

“I don’t know what I’m going to do about the new girl. She won’t stay in her cubicle. She’s constantly finding an excuse to get out of her seat and is a terrible distraction. I don’t think she’s going to last very long….”

Large Network

People strong in Woo know a lot of people & have a large social network.

Strengths: Winning Others Over

Do you know someone who is constantly flitting from one social event to another and never can seem to sit still? Maybe their networking seems a bit over the top? Or maybe every time you take a look, they are posting pictures of themselves with lots of people on social media? Or maybe their energy exhausts you because they’re so “in your face.” Perhaps they move so fast among people that they appear to be be phony, superficial and lack depth in their relationships.

You may have actually brushed up against someone with the StrengthsFinder talent theme of Woo. Woo stands for Winning others over, and that’s just what they do.

Woo: The More People the Better

Those especially gifted in Woo love people. They want to be around them, learn their stories, and engage with them — as many as possible, every day. They often have very high energy — in fact, they get their energy from other people. They are excellent at “breaking the ice” and finding new ways of capturing others’ attention. Most people find them warm, friendly and charismatic. They have high social capital — they know a LOT of people. And they genuinely enjoy people and get a “spark” out of making a new friend. They know how to connect quickly, and you’ll find them promoting people and products and services that they are excited about with great enthusiasm.

WOO party

Woo’ers love to be around people in social situations.

They Need Social Variety

My friend, Barbara Anne, is strong in Woo and she is a force of nature! Many of us have nicknamed her the Neon Butterfly. She’s not just part our local Chamber of Commerce, she’s an Ambassador for them — an advocate that helps other members make the connections they need to help their businesses grow. She attends several events each day — ribbon cuttings and networking breakfasts, business luncheons and after hours events — any place where the people can be found. She also has her own business as resource connector and when she knows a need for one of her clients, she hunts through her large database of people and searches for the connections they need.

Love Your Woo-er

So the next time you meet someone who seems to be an over-the-top people person, find out about all the people they know. They may be engaged in certain networks that you need to get involved with or know just the right people to connect you to, to get your product or service promoted. Find out where they’re going — and follow them — because they may know where the people are that you need most. And they’ll probably be happy to make an introduction.

Ask yourself when dealing with someone highly talented in Woo: where do we need to get the word out, or our products promoted or our services known? They may be just the person to carry it into the rest of the world.
