Leave a legacy

Significance: Making an Impact!

In StrengthsFinder Themes by Rhonda Knight Boyle

“I can’t believe it! My boss took credit for my idea AGAIN! I don’t know why she does that — it was MY work.”

“Have you ever had a conversation with that new sales guy? Ugh. He has to name drop. Every Monday morning he comes in and brags about who he was rubbing shoulders with over the weekend. Who cares?”

“I don’t think that lady can think, talk or focus on ANYTHING put that non-profit she created. I mean, seriously. I want to help single moms, too, but good grief! There are other programs that can help — not just hers.”

Successful Impact

Significance: Making a successful impact.

Strengths: They are Focused on Success

Have you met someone who seems hungry for recognition? Maybe they are constantly mentioning who they know, or who they’ve seen, or seem highly focused on people who are successful, popular or have celebrity status? Or maybe they frequently seek the limelight? Or perhaps they are often taking “credit” for things, or they seem to always get their name associated with some renowned project or program.

You may have discovered someone strong in the StrengthsFinder talent theme of Significance.

Leave a legacy

Those who want to leave a legacy and make an impact may have Significance.

Significance: They Want to be Recognized

Those high in Significance love to be noticed. And not just for themselves, but for their work, their success, their projects and programs. They want to be respected for what they do and what they’re involved in, and they want to be plugged in to important things. They are attracted to successful people and those of great influence. They need to know that the things they are associated with are of exceptional value, and can have a lasting impact. They are all about leaving a legacy and their unique stamp on the world.

They are highly sensitive to the fact that this life will not last forever and they want to leave something behind of great value.  Otherwise, why bother?

It Needs to Contribute

The late, great Danny Thomas may have had Significance. He was an American TV and film actor and producer, whose career spanned more than fifty years. But his greatest legacy was the work he did as the Founder for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. St. Jude’s is known world-wide for treating children with cancer and other catastrophic illnesses. He raised millions of dollars for the hospital during his lifetime and the foundation he laid still continues.

Love Some Significance

The next time you run into someone who seems to love to see their name in lights, find out what they’re passionate about. You’ll likely discover an underlying mission that has absolutely nothing to do with them or their name. You’ll learn what’s important to them and why and what they want to make a powerful contribution in the world. And maybe you’ll want to join them.

When working with someone especially talented in Significance, ask yourself: where do we need to make a difference?
