Develop your Context Talent

In StrengthsFinder Themes, Talent Development by Rhonda Knight Boyle

Context is one of the 34 Clifton StrengthsFinder talent themes. Less than 9% of people who have taken the assessment have Context in their Top 5 report. Here are 7 ways to develop your Context talent and turn it into a strength!

1. Read Histories

With Context high, you are all about understanding the past. Historical fiction, biographies and history books will grow your knowledge base of who and what happened before.

Collecting histories will help you develop your Context talent.

2. Collect the Past

Memorabilia could be your thing! Choosing things to collect from history will give you concrete items you can relate the histories to. An old snuff box collection or antique clocks or World War II artifacts will allow you to feel the past in ways that only you can understand. Your collections will attract other collectors and you’ll be able to develop relationships and swap stories.

3. Know the Background

You are one who is grounded in knowing what happened before. If you’re taking on a new project or getting involved in an organization, research the history to boost your knowledge base and fill in the gaps. You’ll develop your Context talent by digging in and learning more.

4. Choose a Favorite

Choosing a favorite time period and studying it deeply will not only make you an authority, it will give you confidence. Learn about the time by studying different experts to get new and fresh perspectives.

5. Join In

Find a club to join to talk about those histories and times you find most intriguing. If there’s not one local, look for one online. Facebook and other social media platforms provide opportunities for like-minded people to share information and experiences.

6. Watch Video

The History Channel, Discovery Channel, and TV shows like, How it’s Made are all possibilities for expanding your knowledge and understanding. Watching how things work, or tracking a loaf of bread all the way back to the wheat field will give you process information to add to your personal data base.

7. Share the Past

Reminding others of what happened before is where you can be most impactful. You know that if we don’t know the past, we are “doomed to repeat it.” When sharing what you know, be sure to let others know about your Context talent so they don’t think you’re living in the past.
